Embracing the MS Journey: A Tapestry of Reflection and Resilience

As the soft dawn light filtered through my window, I found myself lost in the echoes of yesterday—a day that turned mundane tasks into significant milestones. Living with MS has taught me that even the most ordinary actions can morph into meaningful challenges. Awakening to Possibilities I woke with a swirl of thoughts, contemplating both my achievements and the tasks that loomed on the horizon. The neglected chores, like the unkempt floors and the forgotten bulbs waiting to be planted, hovered in my consciousness. Yet, rather than becoming ensnared in the web of unfinished business, I chose to celebrate the small victories I had managed to carve out throughout the day. With MS, it’s crucial to cherish the gradual, unwavering progress and to recognize that every step, no matter how minuscule, is a triumph. The Garage Expedition A pivotal moment in my day unfolded as I set out on a quest that, on the surface, seemed simple: installing sticky chalkboard wallpaper on the laundry door, a c...

Mom's Strength: Coping with a Sick Child While Overcoming Fatigue

Image
Being a mom is a beautiful journey, filled with countless joys and challenges. But when our children get sick, everything else seems to fade into the background, including our own limitations. Yesterday was one of those challenging yet rewarding days. It all started with a seemingly normal morning. My four-year-old son was excited and energetic, ready to take on the day. But as we prepared for school, I noticed he felt a bit warm. A quick check of his temperature revealed he had a fever of 100.3°F, which meant no school for him. While I focused on making him comfortable, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something else might be going on, especially with the nosebleed and congestion he had been experiencing. After giving him some fever medicine, I settled in for what I anticipated would be a busy day. My son is a social butterfly—always wanting to play and engage with others. Keeping him entertained while he wasn’t feeling well was no small task. He took his medicine like a ...

Listening to My Body: Breaking the Cycle of Dismissing Symptoms

Image
Today started like any other day in my busy life—juggling kids, swimming classes, and a grocery run. On the surface, everything felt normal. But beneath that facade lay an unsettling detail: I forgot to take my morning medication. As I sit here, sipping my coffee and reflecting on the morning’s chaos, a nagging question keeps surfacing: Am I truly helping myself by ignoring, dismissing, or justifying my symptoms? It’s a familiar pattern for me, one I’ve danced around too many times. Life gets busy, and my pride often tells me to push through, even when my body is waving a red flag. This year, however, the fatigue has hit differently. Sure, fatigue has always been part of my reality, but I felt I had it under control—until summer rolled in. Suddenly, I was overwhelmed by exhaustion. At first, I chalked it up to the sweltering heat and humidity, which I know can amplify MS symptoms. That seemed reasonable enough, right? But when the summer heat finally lifted, the fatigue stu...

Cherishing Sweet Moments: Finding Strength in Love

Life with Multiple Sclerosis can be challenging but amidst the difficulties, there are precious moments that fill my heart with joy and give me the strength to keep going. This morning, I had one of those sweet, unforgettable moments. My 4-year-old son came into my room with a big smile, climbed into bed with me, and said, "I miss you so much, a million!" His innocent, heartfelt words were like a ray of sunshine, instantly lifting my spirits. He snuggled up close, wrapping his tiny arms around me, offering comfort and love without even realizing how much it meant. Meanwhile, my daughter was in the room, watching YouTube shorts on her phone. One particular video caught my attention—it was about racism, showing a privileged white lady harassing her neighbor. It struck a chord because my children have faced similar challenges. They've endured racist remarks, aggressive dogs, and even had guns pointed at them on multiple occasions. Despite these terrifying experiences, they r...
